Platter - Umbrella
A solitary figure walks to an unknown destination oblivious to the surrounding riot of colour. This is one of the most challenging pieces I have attempted so far.
Read more about this piece featured in my blog here.
I suggest that you wash all Glass by Charis by hand. It is food safe.
Putting it in the microwave is not recommended.
Size: 14" x 9.375" (.875" deep)
How it was created: The "Umbrella platter" was created by laying two rectangles of clear glass on the kiln shelf and topping it with multiple colours of hand-crushed opaque glass. It was then fused in the kiln. I added more pieces of crushed glass four more times in order to get the effect I wanted and fused the plate again each times. Finally it was slumped in an 14"x9.5" rectangular mold. This piece was in the kiln for six days.
My process often adds bubbles in the glass and no piece is perfectly round or square, adding to its appeal.
Fusing glass, often in several layers, results in items that may seem surprisingly heavy when first unpacked.
