Portfolio Bowl - Peacock feathers

$0.00

Do you have childhood memories of lying on your back studying the clouds – discovering animals and angels and cars and flowers and all sorts of mythical creatures.

My screen melts remind me of such times. The colours, the shapes, the swirls reveal birds, fish, angels, people, animals, flowers – delights only you and your imagination can find. In addition to all the many things I see in this piece, I see peacock feathers.

Perfect for serving or just to admire and enjoy.

Read more about how this piece was created in my blog here.

I suggest that you wash all Glass by Charis by hand. It is food safe.

Putting it in the microwave is not recommended.

Size: 10.25" (2"deep)

How it was created: This is a screen melt bowl. I arranged multi-coloured pieces of glass on a screen poised above the kiln shelf and let them melt through to the shelf below. Firing the glass takes over thirteen hours. Another twelve hours is required for the glass to cool enough to be trimmed into the shape of the serving bowl. The glass was fired again to smooth out all the edges. The fused glass piece was then on top of a mold and fired at just a high enough temperature to make the glass take on the shape of the mold.

My process often adds bubbles in the glass and no piece is perfectly round or square, adding to its appeal.

Fusing glass, often in several layers, results in items that may seem surprisingly heavy when first unpacked.
