Bowl/plate - Yellow butterfly
Testing the limits of control when many colours are melted together calls for patience and perseverance. But learning the technique produces stunning results like this dramatic butterfly in its sunny yellow field.
You can read more about my inspiration for this piece in my blog here.
I suggest that you wash all Glass by Charis by hand. It is food safe.
Putting it in the microwave is not recommended.
Size: 9.75" (1.375" deep)
How it was created: The "Yellow butterfly" bowl was created by placing a piece of clear glass on the kiln shelf. A piece of transparent yellow glass was placed on top of the clear. The design was created using hand-crushed opaque glass on top. It was fired in the kiln at a full fuse. More glass was added twice more to make the design just how I wanted it to be and it was fired again each time. The fused piece was slumped in a round bowl mold. This piece was in the kiln for four days.
My process often adds bubbles in the glass and no piece is perfectly round or square, adding to its appeal.
Fusing glass, often in several layers, results in items that may seem surprisingly heavy when first unpacked.
