Platter - Vanilla hearts
A subtle, elegant hearts design speaks from this round serving plate. Vanilla on vanilla goes with any decor and the 12.75" size is very versatile.
This piece was featured in my blog here.
I suggest that you wash all Glass by Charis by hand. It is food safe.
Putting it in the microwave is not recommended.
Size: 12.75" (.75" deep)
How it was created: The vanilla hearts round serving plate was created by laying a round 13" piece of clear glass on the kiln shelf for the base and topping it with a round piece of vanilla reactive glass. The delicate heart shapes were made by adding a third layer of more pieces of the vanilla glass on top. I then added small chips of the glass to create the snow-type effect. This glass has an unusual reaction to heat. It lightens in the middle revealing the subtle design. The three layers were fused together. This plate was fired at full fuse temperatures three more times to get the design just the way I envisioned. Then the 13" round fused piece was put in a plate mold and fired for another day. The "Vanilla hearts" serving plate was in the kiln for five days in total. The underside of the plate reveals many small bubbles.
My process often adds bubbles in the glass and no piece is perfectly round or square, adding to its appeal.
Fusing glass, often in several layers, results in items that may seem surprisingly heavy when first unpacked.
