Portfolio Bowl/pasta plate - Red peacock yellow
Olive coloured transparent glass serves as the stage for this cheerful serving platter/bowl topped with warm and inviting colours.
This piece was featured in my blog here.
I suggest that you wash all Glass by Charis by hand. It is food safe.
Putting it in the microwave is not recommended.
Size: 12.75" (1.5" deep)
How it was created: This pasta plate was created by laying a circle of transparent olive glass on the kiln shelf and topping it with small pieces of opaque glass. The peacock glass has copper in it and the yellow glass has a lot of sulfur. When the two colours touch they combine to form copper sulfide which creates the dark outline colour around the bits of glass when fused. The next day, I added more pieces of the opaque colours to get the design just the way I wanted it and fused it again. Then it was slumped in an 15" round mold. This piece was in the kiln for three days.
My process often adds bubbles in the glass and no piece is perfectly round or square, adding to its appeal.
Fusing glass, often in several layers, results in items that may seem surprisingly heavy when first unpacked.
